Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic Inspects the Novi Sad-Ruma Expressway Project
Date: 06/19/2024On June 15, Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic inspected the construction site of the Novi Sad-Ruma Expressway Project, accompanied by Li Ming, Chinese Ambassador to Serbia. Some other leaders also attended the activity, including Goran Vesic, Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Milan ?uri?, Mayor of Novi Sad, and Antic, General Manager of Serbian Corridor Company.
In the Iriski Venac Tunnel, a control project along the line, Vucevic gave high praise to the Novi Sad-Ruma Expressway Project undertaken by CRBC. He noted that, being another model under the Serbia-China cooperation, the Novi Sad-Ruma Expressway Project now witnesses accelerated, safe and eco-friendly construction thanks to the great efforts of CRBC. He pointed out that the Iriski Venac Tunnel is conductive to the protection of environment and Fruška Gora National Park. After it is completed and put into use, vehicles will get cross the natural reserve underground, shortening the travel from 30 minutes to 5 minutes and significantly reducing emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases. After completion, the Project will improve the regional connectivity, facilitate people’s travel, and boost economic and social development in the region.
As noted by Ambassador Li Ming, Serbia and China have witnessed fruitful achievements in co-building the “Belt and Road” and the Novi Sad-Ruma Expressway Project will facilitate regional connectivity and mutual benefits after completion. He believed that CRBC will give full play to its advantages of cutting-edge technologies and rich experience and closely cooperate with the Serbian side to promote the satisfactory completion of the Project. During the inspection, Ambassador Li Ming visited project management and front-line employees at project camps.

Measuring a total of 45.18km, the Novi Sad-Ruma Expressway Project is situated in Autonomous Province of Vojvodina in northern Serbia and extends from the north to south across the Danube and Fruška Gora National Park. Being a control project, the Iriski Venac Tunnel is a dual-way four-lane split tunnel that measures about 3.5km, which will be the longest tunnel in Serbia after complete. With a cumulative footage of 52%, the tunnel is now smoothly progressed.
